Off Of My Bookshelves

Hey Everyone!

Tank and I have decided to try something a little different. On Thursdays, we are going to pick a book off of our bookshelves and share it with you! We thought it would be fun to highlight some lovely books that have been out for a while. Plus get more pictures with Tank! Please enjoy and don’t be afraid to share your favorites with us!

Today, we are going to talk about a classic, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen! Tank's a little tired from this week, so he wasn't real into the picture.

Pride and Prejudice

This is one of my favorites, and I have reread it so many times! Have you read It?

Pride and Prejudice is a classic romance. The reader introduced to the Bennet family which has 5 girls. We get to follow along as they quest for suitable husbands. My favorite is the lovely, brilliant, and independent Elizabeth Bennet. She is introduced to the formidable Mr. Darcy. I have had a long standing crush on Mr. Darcy. He is so kind and thoughtful under his tough exterior. The question is can she see his true self and find happiness?

Jane Austen eloquently describes the settings and scenes throughout the book. I can just see myself walking with Elizabeth or going to the ball or wandering through Pemberley.

Also there was a wonderful movie adaption with Keira Knightley. If you haven't seen it, check it out! The scenery is breathtaking, and the music beautiful. Plus, it follows the book pretty close!

Book Blurb From Goodreads:

'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' Thus memorably begins Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, one of the world's most popular novels. Pride and Prejudice--Austen's own 'darling child'--tells the story of fiercely independent Elizabeth Bennett, one of five sisters who must marry rich, as she confounds the arrogant, wealthy Mr. Darcy. What ensues is one of the most delightful and engrossingly readable courtships known to literature, written by a precocious Austen when she was just twenty-one years old.
Humorous and profound, and filled with highly entertaining dialogue, this witty comedy of manners dips and turns through drawing-rooms and plots to reach an immensely satisfying finale. In the words of Eudora Welty, Pride and Prejudice is as 'irresistible and as nearly flawless as any fiction could be.'

  1. I remember reading it many years ago - when the earths crust was cooling and I was in high school... and feeling extremely annoyed - I didn't like how women were treated and couldn't focus on the story. I watched a movie years later and realized what I'd missed.

    1. The movie is excellent. I didn't care for it in high school either. It grew on me when I reread it after I watched the movie.

  6. I keep delaying this reading, the fact that is so sweet and so much romance... not appealing, but I'll be reading it. Maybe. Someday.

  7. Your dog is so cute! I've yet to read this book. Ironically, I *have* read Pride & Prejudice and Zombies, which was essentially the same thing, but with zombies.

  15. I still can't believe Austin wrote this book when she was so young. It is provocative (given when it was written) and very mature. One of my favourite Austen's reads for sure.
Love how chilled Tank is. :) My dog needs to start taking some notes I think. :)
