Off Of My Bookshelves

Hey Everyone!

Allie and I have decided to try something a little different. On Thursdays, we are going to pick a book off of our bookshelves and share it with you! We thought it would be fun to highlight some lovely books that have been out for a while. Plus get more pictures with me, Tank! Please enjoy and don’t be afraid to share your favorites with us!

Sorry we missed the last 2 Thursdays. Allie got hurt at work and broke her leg 2 weeks ago. She had surgery last week. So this week is the first week that she actually feels like a human. Don't worry, it is not all bad. She is catching up on her TBR, I get lots more couch time, and lots of friends have been visiting!

Licks and Tail wags,

Today, are going to discuss how much we love the *The Secret Keeper* by Kate Morton!

**Book Blurb from Goodreads**

During a summer party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is happily dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and watches as her mother speaks to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime. A crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy—her vivacious, loving, nearly perfect mother.

Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress living in London. The family is gathering at Greenacres farm for Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this may be her last chance, Laurel searches for answers to the questions that still haunt her from that long-ago day, answers that can only be found in Dorothy’s past.

Dorothy’s story takes the reader from pre–WWII England through the blitz, to the ’60s and beyond. It is the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined. The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams and the unexpected consequences they sometimes bring. It is an unforgettable story of lovers and friends, deception and passion that is told—in Morton’s signature style—against a backdrop of events that changed the world.

The Secret Keeper: A Novel by [Morton, Kate]

**Book Review**
We discovered Kate Morton when Allie was wandering around Barnes & Noble looking for her next great read. She is a talented writer that crafts a captivating tale.
In *The Secret Keeper*, the reader follows two stories throughout the book. In one story, Laurel has some demons from when she was a girl and something tragic happened. Now many years later, her mother is nearing the end of her life and she must get answers before it's too late. The other story is about three people trying to survive in London during WWII.  How these stories interact to come to a full conclusion is just marvelous!

This book has  a lot of character growth and evolution. There is inherent danger, love, and the mystery of the past and what could have been. This is one book that we have read multiple times. As every time read, new details appear and more things make sense!

We love all of her books. If you haven't read Kate Morton before, we recommend starting with this one!

  1. Oh no Allie, hope you are feeling better and are on the mend. Injuries truly suck. :(
I haven't read anything from Kate Morton yet but am quite curious now and will keep The Secret Keeper in mind. Thanks!
Does Tank have a company? :)

    1. Thanks Vera! My doctor is happy with my progress. So that is great! I would definitely try Kate Morton. The books are intense!
That's Tank's brother. He is not as photogenic as Tank is! :)

    2. So happy to hear you are on the mend!

Oh, I didn't realise Tank had a brother, he's very cute as well! :)

  2. Great review. I am sorry that you've been feeling so poorly. I hope that your leg is on the mends now, though I know it's a long process. :( (I think Tank and his Bro are so cute.)

  3. Great review! I'm not a huge fan of Kate Morton, just because her books are so long and detailed.

  4. Great review! I am going to add it to my TBR.

  5. Hope you feel better soon. Lovely review. Sounds intriguing.
