Author Interview:

When did you start writing? Age 6

What inspired you to start writing? There weren't enough Pippi Longstocking books, so I wrote some more.

When did you first consider yourself a writer? Age 7

What advice would you give to a new writer, someone just starting out? Read and write often.

How do you handle writer’s block? I don't usually get it, but when I do, I start a fresh project or just enjoy the time off.

What comes first for you, the plot or characters? Characters.

How do you develop your plot and characters? Just write and see where they go.

Describe your writing space. Even though I have an office space, I usually write on the couch.

What do you need to have to be productive? Quiet and few distractions

Describe a typical writing day for you. I don't really have a typical writing day. It could be a couple hours of writing or ten+ hours if I'm feeling productive or have a deadline to meet.

What is the most difficult part about writing for you? I'm not great at "sticking the ending."

How do you do research for your books? Google
How many books have you written? Over twenty

Which is your favourite? I've got a few. The Woman America Loves a Latte and Surviving Valencia are a couple I enjoy.

Who is your favorite character? Again, I've got a few. Some I actually like, and some just entertain me. Some favorites for various reasons are Francie from I Will Follow Him, Rufus the dog from Dogged by Love, Zeke and Angelique from The Worst Couple in the World, Dimitri from my professional wrestling romcom, the nameless narrator in Surviving Valencia, and Veloura, Ricky Dwayne, and Thunder from The Woman America Loves a Latte.

Are you working on anything at the present that you would like to share with your readers?

Sure! I've got several books going right now. Book 2 in the Starling Falls series (a dark ghost story series), a book set in Sweet Hollow (same place my book Sweet Hollow Women takes place), and a few others.

Do you hear from your readers much?

Yes, now and then. They ask me questions about characters or plot points, ask me what I'm working on next, let me know if they find typos (which I actually appreciate very much).

Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

The best way is by following me on Amazon, Goodreads, and Bookbub.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ABOUT I Will Follow Him

I Will Follow Him (Oceanic Dreams #5)

This book was written as part of the Oceanic Dream series.
Who came up with the idea? This was the brainchild of Delancey Stewart.

What was it like to collaborate with a bunch of different authors? It was fun!

I loved how the ferret was mentioned in almost every single one. Was it hard to coordinate the details?

A little, but between a spreadsheet of guidelines with names, times things were happening, etc., we were able to keep on track. We had a Facebook group just for behind-the-scenes coordination. It was very helpful.

What was your favorite part to write?

I loved writing this book! It was so much fun. I write in a variety of genres, including dark ghost stories and literary fiction, so it was wonderful to work on something so lighthearted and silly.

Francie was my favorite character. I just loved her character arc.  :) Thanks.

How did you come up with her character? I'm not sure how I come up with any of my characters. I just start with a name or, if I'm writing the first person, a scene, and go from there.

Who was your favorite person to create? I loved every character in this book. Bink cracks me up!

If your book was to be made into a movie, who would you want to star in it?
Even though she's a reality star and not a movie star, I can totally picture Nicole Franzel of Big Brother and The Amazing Race playing Francie.

PERSONAL QUESTIONS

Who is your favourite author? So many! Gillian Flynn, Sophie Kinsella, Stephen King, Sylvia Plath, David Sedaris...

What are you reading now? Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
What do you like to do when you are not writing? Hiking, traveling, reading, watching TV

What was your dream job when you were younger? Being a writer or a greeting card designer

What’s your favorite food? veggie tacos, pasta, veggie subs, salad, fresh baked bread

If you could choose three people to invite for a dinner party, who would they be and why?
Elon Musk, Fred Armisen, and John Lithgow. They're all entertaining and I have a crush on all of them.

I read on your bio that you live in Madison, WI. That's where I went to college. Go Badgers!

YAY!

Anyway, what is your favorite place to visit or favorite thing to do in Madison?

Go out to eat at all our great restaurants, go out downtown, hike at all the nearby parks, and (of course) hang out at the terrace in the summer.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you like to go? A Morocco, Spain, Portugal tour

Finally, to settle the great debate among writers and readers. What is your beverage of choice while writing?

Coffee!

Book Blurb from Goodreads:

A bachelor party on a cruise ship. What could go wrong?

When private detective Francie is hired to spy on a groom-to-be as he and his bachelor party set sail for the Caribbean, she thinks she's landed herself a week of paid vacation. Between lounging in the sun and sipping margaritas, she just needs to--best case scenario--report back that he's on the up and up, or--the unfortunate, more likely scenario--snap a few photos of her target in compromising positions, buy a box of sympathy chocolates for her client, and then collect her pay along with a nice golden suntan.

Blame it on the island breezes or the alcohol, but within hours of setting sail, Francie's leisurely vacation gets complicated when she starts making careless mistakes. Like accidentally becoming friends with the groom and falling for his best man.

Can she get herself and her mission back on track, or has she blown her cover and possibly even her career?

This novella-length romantic comedy is book five in the Oceanic Dreams series.
